Indiana Avenue to Texan Trail

WCOMPLETED

The Swantner Drive reconstruction project, from Indiana Avenue to Texan Trail, will include the full reconstruction of existing 2-lane roadway, with new pavement, curb & gutter, sidewalks, ADA compliant curb ramps, driveways, signage, pavement markings, and lighting improvements. Additionally, both Chamberlain Street and Glazebrook Street from Swantner Drive to Reid Drive, will also get new storm water utility improvements. The project is expected to last about two years.

nProject Updates

March 3, 2023:
The contractor has opened the street to traffic. Next week City Staff will be doing the final walk-through of the project site to determine last-minute punch list items. A ribbon-cutting celebration will be held at the end of the month at Lindale Park. Additional information will be provided in the coming weeks. Thank you for your patience during this project.

February 24, 2023:
The contractor worked on the ADA ramps and the speed table this week. Next week, they are planning to continue sod installation and will also clean up the construction path.

February 17, 2023:
This week, the contractor installed collars around the manholes and next week they will start installing the speed table.

February 10, 2023:
This week, the contractor installed street signage and completed street markings. Next week, they will work to install speed table and a valley gutter between Swantner Drive and Texan Trail.

January 27, 2023:
The contractor for the Swantner Drive project is laying asphalt today at the intersections from Vaky Street to Glazebrook Street. Additional asphalt will be laid tomorrow in the straight-a-ways. The project will be completed in the coming weeks.

January 20, 2023:
The contractor is forming and pouring sidewalks and driveways as part of Phase 4B. They anticipate being able to pave the last remaining section of Swantner Drive next week.

January 13, 2023:
The contractor is currently working with suppliers on the delivery of sod needed for the project. It is anticipated that delivery will take place within the next two weeks. They are also working to form and pour the remaining sidewalks along the construction path. Asphalt prep work will begin next week.

January 5, 2023:
This week, the concrete sidewalks and driveways will be completed this week. Next week the contractor will begin prepping the roadway for asphalt.

December 23, 2022:
This week, the contractor spread topsoil from Deforest Street to Sorrell Street. New sod is currently being laid, and this will continue over the next few weeks. Next week, the main project contractor will be off for the Christmas holiday. The sub-contractor may continue pouring concrete on sidewalks and driveways, depending on the weather and crew availability.

December 16, 2022:
Swantner Drive is currently closed to thru traffic. Residents will continue to have access to the street if their driveway entrance is on Swantner Drive. Motorists are asked to use caution in the work zone.

This week, the contractor is working to install new sod from Deforrest Street to Sorrell Street. They have also begun forming and pouring driveways and sidewalks from Vaky Street to McCall Street. This work is expected to continue into next week.

December 9, 2022:
This week, the contractor spread topsoil from Deforrest Street to Sorrell Street. New sod is anticipated to begin installation by the end of the week. They have also begun forming and pouring driveways and sidewalks from Glazebrook Street to Vaky Street.

Next week, the contractor will finish placing the topsoil from Sorrell Street to Ralston Street, and they will also work to complete the driveways and sidewalks from Glazebrook Street to Vaky Street.

December 2, 2022:
This week, the contractor began sidewalk and driveway installations along Swantner Drive from Glazebrook Street Vaky Street. Topsoil installation continued from Deforrest Street to Sorrell Street.

Next week, topsoil installation along Swantner Drive from Sorrell Street to Ralston Street will continue. Additionally, sidewalks and driveway installation will continue from Vaky Street to Glazebrook Street.

November 18, 2022:
This week, on Swantner Drive from Vaky Street to Glazebrook Street, the installation of the concrete inlets, curb, and gutters were completed. Additionally, topsoil was delivered to the site for installation.

Next week, concrete sidewalks and driveways installation will continue from Vaky Street to Glazebrook Street. Topsoil installation will also continue along Swantner Drive from Ralston Avenue to Deforrest Street.

November 11, 2022:
This week, installation of concrete inlets, driveways, curbs, and gutters continued along Swantner Drive from Vaky Street to Glazebrook Street.

Next week, topsoil and sod installations will continue along Swantner Drive from Ralston Avenue to Deforrest Street. Installation of inlets, driveways, curbs, and gutters will also continue from Vaky Street to Glazebrook Street.

November 4, 2022:
This week, curb and gutter installation continued along Swantner Drive from Vaky Street to Glazebrook Street. Additionally, topsoil and sod installation continued along Swantner Drive from Ralston Avenue to Deforrest Street.

Next week, curb, gutter, topsoil and sod installation will continue. Additionally, driveway installations along Swantner Drive from Vaky Street to Glazebrook Street will begin.

October 21, 2022:
This week, the contractor continued curb and gutter installation along Swantner Drive from Vaky Street to Glazebrook Street and the work will continue over the next few weeks. Ralston Avenue to Deforrest Street remains closed to traffic for the remaining installations of stop signs and sod. Traffic sign installations were delayed this week but are expected to begin next week.

October 14, 2022:
This week, the contractor continued curb and gutter installation along Swantner Drive from Vaky Street to Glazebrook Street. Paving from Ralston Avenue to Deforrest Street has been completed but remains closed to traffic for the remaining installations of stop signs and sod.

Next week, the contractor will continue concrete curb and gutter installation along Swantner Drive from Vaky Street to Glazebrook Street. Additionally, traffic sign installations are expected to begin next week.

October 7, 2022:
This week, installation has been completed for sidewalks, driveways, curbs, and gutters along Swantner Drive from Ralston Street to Deforrest Street. The contractor also continued to install limestone road base from Vaky Street to Glazebrook Street.

Next week, the contractor plans to begin asphalt paving along Swantner Drive from Ralston Street to Deforrest Street. Additionally, limestone road base installation will continue, and work for curb and gutter concrete installations will begin from Vaky Street to Glazebrook Street.

September 30, 2022:
This week, the contractor continued work on the storm water inlets and roadway base installation.

Next week, roadway base installation will continue.

September 23, 2022:
This week, the contractor continued road base installation in preparation for asphalt paving on Swantner Drive.

Next week, weather permitting, work for road base installation will continue.

Next week, preparations will begin for asphalt paving, including the installation of concrete inlets, limestone road base, and geogrid along Swantner Drive. All work is weather permitting.

August 12, 2022:
This week, the contractor worked on water line tie-ins and the installation of sidewalks and driveways.

Next week, in preparation for asphalt paving, the installation of limestone road base along Swantner Drive will begin.

August 5, 2022:
This week, waterline tie-ins continued from Vaky Street to Glazebrook Street. Concrete sidewalk and driveway installation also continued along Swantner Drive.

Next week, waterline tie-ins are scheduled to be completed from Vaky Street to Glazebrook Street. Concrete sidewalk and driveway installation along Swantner Drive is expected to reach completion.

July 29, 2022:
This week, excavation continued along Swantner Drive from Vaky Street to Glazebrook Street in preparation for water utility tie-ins. In addition, concrete sidewalk and driveway installations moved forward.

Next week, excavation, clean-up, and work to complete water utility line tie-ins along Swantner Drive will continue. Concrete sidewalk and driveway installations along Swantner Drive are expected to reach completion.

July 22, 2022:
This week, excavation along Swantner Drive continues from Vaky Street to Glazebrook Street in preparation for water utility tie-ins. Concrete sidewalk and driveway installations also moved forward.

Next week, water utility line tie-ins and concrete installations continue along Swantner Drive.

July 15, 2022:
This week the contractor began the installation of water and storm water lines across McCall Street as part of the Phase 4 construction. The concrete sidewalk and driveway installations along Swantner Drive also continued.

Next week, water and storm water line installations across McCall Street will continue. Excavation work along Swantner Drive from Glazebrook Street to McCall Street is expected to move forward as part of Phase 4 construction. Concrete installations for sidewalks and driveways along Swantner Drive will continue.

July 8, 2022:
This week, the installation of 6-inch waterline and backfilling was completed along Swantner Drive between Hoffman Street to Vaky Street. Additionally, the contractor moved forward with new concrete installations from Ralston Street to Sorrell Street.

Next week, work on Phase 4 construction will continue with waterline tie-ins at the intersection of Swantner Drive and Glazebrook Street. New concrete installations along Swantner Drive from Harrison Street to Sorrell Street are expected to reach completion.

July 1, 2022:
This week, storm water pipe installation continued along Swantner Drive between McClendon Street to McCall Street. New concrete curb, gutter, and sidewalk installation continued along Swantner Drive between Ponder Street and Ralston Street.

Next week, work on Phase 4 construction will move forward with storm water pipe installation along Swantner Drive from McCall Street to Vaky Street. Concrete curb, gutter and sidewalk installation will also continue along Swantner Drive from Sorrell Street to Harrison Street.

June 17, 2022:
This week, as part of Phase 4 construction, installation of limestone road subgrade and concrete manholes along Swantner Drive from Ponder Street to Deforrest Street continued. Installation of storm water piping along Swantner Drive near Glazebrook Street also moved forward.

Next week, work to install limestone road subgrade will continue along Swantner Drive and preparations to install new concrete curb, gutter, and sidewalk is expected to begin as part of Phase 4 construction.

June 10, 2022:
This week, installation of stormwater piping and manholes continued along Swantner Drive between Vaky Street and Glazebrook Street as part of Phase 4 construction. Limestone subgrade installation also continued between Deforrest Street and Sorrell Street.

Next week, work to install stormwater piping and limestone road subgrade will continue along Swantner Drive. Preparations to install new concrete curb, gutter, and sidewalk is also expected to begin as part of Phase 4 construction.

June 3, 2022:
This week, the contractor removed existing asphalt along Swantner Drive from Vaky Street to Robinson Street and drained standing water in the same area. Next week, work to install stormwater piping and limestone road subgrade will continue on Phase 4.

May 26, 2022:
Phase IV-A and B: Swantner Drive, Ralston Street to Deforrest Street (Ponder Street, Harrison Street, Sorrell Street)
Phase III: Glazebrook/Swantner and Swantner at Texan Trail

This week the scheduled closure of Swantner Drive from Vaky Street to Robinson Street was put in place as part of Phase 4 construction.

McCall Street will remain open from Reid Drive to Swantner Drive to allow access to the Lindale Senior Center. Reid Drive, Glazebrook Street, and Swantner Drive from Glazebrook Street to Texan Trail will remain open to allow access to Ray High School.

Next week, pending delivery of materials, limestone road subgrade installation will continue on Phase 4. Weather permitting, underground utility work is also expected to resume next week.

May 13, 2022:
This week, sod installation was completed for Phase 3 of the project. The contractor continued work on excavation and debris removal in Phase 4 which includes Swantner Drive between Deforrest Street and Ponder Street. Sorrell Street is closed at the Swantner Drive intersection, residents can exit Sorrell Street at Staples Street or Reid Drive.

Next week, as part of Phase 4 construction, the contractor will continue excavation and debris removal and limestone road base application.

May 6, 2022:
This week the contractor was able to complete the roadway paving for Phase 3 which includes Swantner Drive from Glazebrook Street to Texan Trail and Glazebrook Street from Reid Drive to Swantner Drive. Currently the contractor is placing sod within the Phase 3 area and should be complete next week.

As part of Phase 4 which includes Swantner Drive between Deforrest Street and Sorrell Street the contractor completed installation of two waterline valves and plan to perform additional waterline valve installations next week. Deforrest Street is currently OPEN from Staples Street to Reid Street for residential access.

April 29, 2022:
This week the contractor began asphalt paving on Phase 3, Swantner Drive from Glazebrook Street to Texan Trail and Glazebrook Street from Reid Drive to Swantner Drive. As part of Phase 4 construction, crews completed installation of two waterline valves and continued working on future waterline tie ins along Swantner Drive from Deforrest Street to Harrison Street in addition to debris removal from the work zone.

Next week, asphalt paving is expected to continue on Phase 3 and following the installation of temporary street signage, it will be opened to local traffic. Water line tie ins on Phase 4 will also continue next week.

April 22, 2022:
This week the contractor prepared the roadway for asphalt paving on Phase 3, Glazebrook Street from Reid Drive to Swantner Drive and Swantner Drive from Glazebrook Street to Texan Trail. A waterline tie in was conducted on Swantner Drive between Harrison Street and Ponder Street in addition the contractor cleared debris within the Phase 4 work zone.

Next week, asphalt paving will begin on Phase 3 Glazebrook Street from Reid Drive to Swantner Drive and Swantner Drive from Glazebrook Street to Texan Trail. Water line tie ins on Phase 4 will also continue along Swantner Drive between Deforrest Street and Sorrell Street next week.

April 15, 2022:
This week the contractor worked on installation of limestone road base in preparation for the roadway paving in Phase 3, which includes Glazebrook Street from Swantner Drive to Reid Drive and Swantner Drive from Robinson Street to Texan Trail. The roadway paving for Phase 3 will begin next week, weather permitting. The contractor and City utility crews completed a water line off-set and the contractor continued installation of 30-inch stormwater pipes in Phase 4 which includes Swantner Drive from Harrison Street to Sorrell Street. The contractor will continue to coordinate with the City Water Utilities Department on the stormwater installation and complete additional water line off-sets along Swantner Drive from Harrison Street to Deforrest Street next week.

Harrison Street is currently open at Swantner Drive and Reid Drive for residential access. Staples Street and Harrison Street intersection is closed. Ponder Street is limited to residential access only. Traffic throughout the project is limited to residential access only. Thru traffic should seek alternate routes to avoid delays and detours.

April 8, 2022:
This week, the contractor continued installation of 30-inch stormwater utility pipes and crews also completed a waterline leak repair in the same area. Next week, the contractor will continue to coordinate with the City Water Utilities Department to install stormwater utility pipes and off-sets as part of Phase 4 of the Swantner Drive project.

Temporary Lane Closures: Ponder Street is currently open from Staples Street to Swantner Drive and Harrison Street for residential access. Traffic throughout the project is limited to residential access only. Thru traffic should seek alternate routes to avoid delays and detours.

Motorists are advised to obey Speed Limits and Road Closure signage. Residential access will be maintained for local traffic only. Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to avoid the construction zone.

April 1, 2022:
This week the Contractor installed concrete pipes from Sorrell Street to Harrison Street. They also worked to expose valves in the Ralston Street intersection. Next week, the contractor will perform water line offsets to accommodate new concrete pipe installation. The Swantner Drive project is currently 60% complete and on schedule to be completed in October 2022.

January 24, 2022:
Phase 1: Indiana Avenue to Ralston Avenue
Indiana Ave to Ralston Ave is in the final stages of construction. All curb, gutter, sidewalk and roadway has been installed. The contractor plans on installing street signs and temporary street markings by the end of next week. After the street signs and temporary street markings are installed, the barricades will be removed and this section of Swantner Dr will be open for public use.

Phase 2: Chamberlain Street and Swantner Drive (Deforrest Street to Vaky Street)
Chamberlain St north of Reid St. has been completed and is open to the public. The intersection at Swantner Dr and Chamberlain St. has been paved but has no outlet.

Phase 3: Glazebrook Street (Reid Drive to Swantner Drive) and Swantner Drive (Vaky Street and Texan Trail)
Includes Swantner Dr from Texan Trail to Glazebrook St and it is currently under construction. All underground piping, curb and gutter has been completed on Swantner Dr. On Glazebrook St the contractor is working on the curb and gutter.

The project is currently on schedule and the substantial completion date is October 22, 2022, pending weather delays.

December 22, 2021:
Phase 1: Indiana Avenue to Ralston Avenue
The General Contractor has begun laying asphalt to Phase 1 starting at the intersections. All intersections will be completed by Thursday of this week and the main road will be started on Monday, December 27 and completed by December 30.

November 22, 2021:
Phase 1: Indiana Avenue to Ralston Avenue
This section of the Swantner Drive project is currently on hold to facilitate some design changes within the construction area. Expected completion date for this project section is December 2021.

Phase 2: Chamberlain Street and Swantner Drive (Deforrest Street to Vaky Street)
The contractor has completed all curbs, gutters, and sidewalks and sod installation. New utilities and asphalt are anticipated to be installed by end of December.

Phase 3: Glazebrook Street (Reid Drive to Swantner Drive) and Swantner Drive (Vaky Street and Texan Trail)
Sidewalks, curbs, and gutters have been removed and new storm water drainage is currently being installed in the center of the roadway. This work is anticipated to last until the end of the year.
